JangleBox Thread - What Happened To It??
If I may give a shout out from the cheap seats.
I often find myself bowing to the fine ears and minds of the technically gifted on this site. Their ability to hear the fine differences between the multiple possibilities available with modern as well as vintage equipment, can leave me scratching my bald head.
Years ago I found myself caught up in the high tech pallet to the point where I discovered I was spending more time wrestling with the equipment vs. learning to play and crate. My take on this janglebox is in that light. It completely misses my RADAR as it is just another electronic piece of gear. It means little to me in the day to day function of making music.
The subjective substance of what sounds good I would argue is very fluid. I find what I like one day can change dramatically the next. I suspect that feeling is rampant, as we as a group tend to gather a number of different instruments in our arsenals.
If you are a producer the electronics may be a concern, but to musicians I think it falls to the back pages. It seems there are many examples out there of great players using minimal gear with little concern for the electronics.
I find the janglebox discussion interesting, but hardly worth a dark cloud.

I'm just happy to be here.
Mitch,
I personally believe we are not free to offer our opinions if they are not welcome. Whether you believe they aren't attacking or ugly. Peter runs this forum and John runs Rickenbacker and neither answer to you... or me.

Frankly, as a short timer, I'm very much interested in the OEM RM package as well as the JB device. I'm interested in the opines, thoughtful comment and jangly witticisms regarding these items from my Rickenbacker compadres. And I come here to find just that.
I'm not interested in the politics or policies on these items by any individual or their respective manufacturers.
Let's just not beat a dead horse. Let us jangle a while.

"This negativity and verbal sparring accomplishes nothing except to make you look arrogant, self-important, and narrow-minded." I guess that would come under the title of a personal attack. Let me back up to the deleted thread that I started merely to find out what the buzz was all about regarding the JangleBox sound. That was all I asked.
"Why should the CEO of the corporation who builds these wonderful instruments, engage in a debate on a topic that only interests you, or answer your questions?
It was John Hall and the response from the JangleBox people who really pushed the subject matter into the JangleBox VS the RM circuit ring. So it must be important to him. He brought it up. And as far as answering my question goes. He answers alot of questions so why not mine? I responded with what I thought was a logical solution to getting to the bottom of it all. It was and still is a valid question. How that makes me look self important, arrogant or narrow minded by asking it is beyond me. It could have been answered 100 posts ago.
Brian, how can an opinion not be welcome on a forum?? People ask opinions on this forum everyday. That's why I joined it... to get an opinion on a 12 string purchase. And I got plenty. Who says my opinion isn't welcome... You??? Paul??? There may be a alot of people who are wondering the same thing I am but do not want to get dressed down by Paul for asking it or be told their opinion is not welcome by you. Maybe all posts should be laundered first by the "elders" to see if its alright to be viewed by the rest of us.

Mitch, it's been said many times before, but Peter (Admin) runs this forum to focus on the positive aspects of Rickenbacker and Rickenbacker instruments. He wishes to keep John Hall as an active member on this forum for all of our benefit, and has gone to lengths to do so - unfortunatley, sometimes alienating a forumite in the process.
I re-read the posts by John Hall and Steve Lasko and didn't find them to be combative or confrontational - simply attempts by both to clear the air.
So where is all this negativity coming from?

I'm afraid that is getting too personal... and, as far as "elders" vs "newbies" is concerned - having been here for three years & having written over 3500 posts, i think i may be considered to be an "elder", but still, if my opinion doesn't fit the forum policy, i won't be surprised if i'm gonna be challenged about it. So it has nothing to do with "elders" vs "newbies". Have you considered the possibility that your question can't be answered because there are some good reasons why it cannot be answered, which are not to be covered on a public forum? Of course, it's just a suggestion, one of many.
Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.
I could care less about your opinion. The only opinion that matters here, is the only person I would refer to as the "elder(s)", is Peter's. And Peter defers to John Hall out of respect for his participation and sometimes tolerance of this board. Whether you or I feel that is right or wrong is irrelevant.
When you say things like:
I have asked John Hall at least three times why he does not buy a JangleBox and look inside it and then he will get his answer and in turn END all the speculation on the RM circuit.... No reponse.(sic) Now that begs the question ...Why hasn't he responded? "...
...this is where you lose me. When I said John Hall doesn't answer to you, this was the quote I was referring to. Now honestly, do you really think no one at RIC has one of these things?
If you want an opinion, fine. Ask for it. But when you start mouthing off like you have you don't make friends on either side of the aisle.
Certain topics get blood boiling here. This is one of them. I give Pater a great deal of credit for his self restraint. I feel this thread should have been imploded days ago.
What I would recommend is that you buy your 12 string, buy your janglebox and then tell us your opinion. Because, honestly, I think the only opinion that matters to you is yours. I guess that is ok, just don't expect everyone here to agree. I think you know that now.

John, I did not think the posts by John Hall or JangleBox were negative either and I said so in an earlier post. It was because of John Halls post that I asked the questions to begin with. Sheena has suggested that maybe the answer to the one question cannot be discussed in a public forum. I can certainly respect that if that is the case. Would it not have been nice if there had been a post from RIC stating they would like to answer the question but are unable to because of possible legal matters or something to that effect instead of watching this continue???
Brian.... "When I said John Hall doesn't answer to you, this was the quote I was referring to. Now honestly, do you really think no one at RIC has one of these things?" That would make sense but that brings up a question, if they have one them why would John H. state on this forum that he has asked JangleBox for the schematic for the box and they did not respond. If he had one (and it would make sense that they would) then why ask for the plans??? And I don't expect everyone here to agree with me. The local newspaper prints it's editorial (aka **OPINION**) everyday. Sometimes I agree and sometimes I don't. I do, however, respect their right to say whatever they want. That's why they offer "opinion" sections in the newspaper to respond to their editorials in. And they don't discriminate on the subject or tell anyone that their opinions are not welcome. Editorials and the responding opinions are forums. I fail to see where I have "mouthed off" as you put it. My posts have all been respectful. And in regard to buying a 12 string... I did a few months ago. A 660/12.

This isn't a newspaper. But consider my response as a rebuttal to your editorial.

Brian, That is all I am trying to say. You have the right to your opinion as do I. I didn't say this was a newspaper. I was trying to convey that this forum (and most others) is similar to the editorial/opinion section in a newspaper. And it can't be just Peter's opinion that matters. All of our opinions matter. And it's not about whether you agree with them or not it's about respecting an individuals right to print it. This has turned into a forum mini civil war. Agree to disagree. I do it with my friends all the time. One of them is a die hard Stones fan. He insists they are the best band that ever took the stage. I say it's the Beatle's. He will never convince me and I will never convince him but I will never say to him his opinion doesn't matter or tell him he is arrogant, self-important or narrow minded. That would be disrespectful and that is where I have been on the short end of the stick in a few of these posts. His opinion matters to him as does yours to you. Friend or not I will respect what you say and your right to say it.
