Wise words Paul, and thanks once again.

Shaun, how did your restoration attempt turn out?

Ha, I truly wish it was a proper restoration Gary; there are a few too many dings and scrapes on the bass for that! I think that'd be a job for Paul!

Seriously though, I've just given it the once over with the finish restorer and it worked a treat, the prints came straight out, so many thanks to Paul for his marvelous advice. One thing I have realised is how unprepared I am for such emergencies; I ended up using 100% cotton handkerchiefs to wipe it down as they were all I had, and they're probably less than ideal. All I ever normally do is buy a guitar, play it, wipe it down afterwards, put it away, get it out, play it etc. I guess I'm not a finish fiend at all, except with something as drastic as this. I never really sit polishing my guitar. Slapped wrist for me I suppose, but I'm really just a player... it's a good job there are people like Paul around to offer advice!

Glad I could help, Shaun. Keep your eyes peeled for some old-fashioned cotton diapers...d'you suppose Tesco might have 'em?

These are best for all kinds of guitar cleaning chores, even the wipedown after a hard ride.

Just as long as they haven't been "wiped down after a hard ride" before I buy them Paul...

I will have to go diaper shopping; it will amuse anyone I know who I bump into if nothing else...

Thanks for the tip!
