Nothing Ain't Real!

Hi Richard thanks for your continued interest in "Nothing Ain't Real". Oh, I almost forgot to tell you that you have mail.
Re your question: "Or will this tune (or any other ICBM collaborations) be "released" on the forthcoming Forum CD ?"
The short answer is no. The long answer is a bit more complicated, but suffice it to say, we did not submit it for consideration.

And many thanks from me also, Richard. Your interest is very much appreciated.
You may have guessed by now that Brian and I had a heap of fun (and in my case nerves) putting "Nothing Ain't Real" together. Given that we now live in a modern, acronystic world, we fondly refer to it as "NAR".
We were both very happy with the way it turned out while I was staying with Brian in Canada, and I recall there were a number of expletives used when we played it back over and over. Positive expletives, may I say!
We put the track down basically over 2 days (part time) and spent roughly a third (part time) adding some bits and pieces and re-mixing here and there.
Since my return to Australia Brian has done quite a bit of fine-tuning and re-mixing and I can't thank him enough for that because with business pressures and all, I have no doubt that he burnt more than his quota of midnight oil (what a great name for a band, BTW!).
I haven't spoken to Brian for a week or so but I do know that he has one or two more original compositions in the works that hopefully I will be able to contribute to.
For the moment (and probably forever) we are just having fun and enjoying the challenge of putting some nice stuff together that fits in with both our tastes in music and abilities. I doubt that we'll ever produce a CD and may not submit anything for a Forum CD. Our aim is to have fun and bask in the knowledge that "we did it"!
Well before my trip to the USA and Canada Brian and I talked about "the project" and we (I think I'm safe in saying this, eh Brian?) are satisfied with the simple facts that it came to fruition and ended up being something to be proud of - from both a songwriting and execution point of view.
In the end it's all about the joy and love of music, the satisfaction of being able to play an instrument - both as an individual and as part of a team - and most importantly, mateship!!

No need to thank me, and especially apologize, Howard. I, in turn, hope that my endless comments to that thread didn't make anybody sick of 'em. Sometimes i just cannot keep my mouth shut - or fingers off keyboard, for that matter - you know.

Brian and Aitch --- Gosh, many thanks for the mail received ! You guys have some real talent that has gelled together in these well-mixed, intercontinental collaborations. I look forward to hearing more of ICBM's further works using Rickenbackers, to fill out the remaining tracks of the "Off White Album". It ought to be interesting to hear the story of how you guys put together your next collaboration ---- sending bits and pieces of songs, verses and riffs back and forth; Aitch rehearsing a part and sending it back to get edited into a rough mix, etc. etc.

Hi Sheena,
Sorry I missed your comment on Photographs for some reason...too busy at work I suppose. Yes the flute is wonderful instrument. I have a very nice Selmer Bundy silver flute in my music room, but my proficiency on that instrument has deteriorated over the years. I am not sure that I could do the song justice.

Richard,
The "Off White Album" is a tongue in cheek reference and a bit of a play on words, to highlight the fact that we used so many Beatle references in "Nothing Ain't Real" (NAR).
NAR in fact started off as a bit of a "Ruttles" type of lark and as Aitch has eluded to, we were quite surprised by the result. To give credit where credit is due, the "Off White Album" concept came as a result of a forum member commenting that NAR had a "White Album" feel to it.
I am not so sure that we will be issuing a real "Off White Album" Yoko, Ringo and our Paulie might want to sue us if we did that. LOL
Thanks again for your very kind comments.

Hi Richard,
The other songs on MySpace are works that I had completed before Aitch and I decided to do "Nothing Ain't Real".
"Photographs" and "Dear John" were written and completed in late December 1980 as a tribute to John Lennon. "Newspaper Blues" was written in 1975 and recorded last year for the first time after I put my small recording studio together. It was also the very first time that I had used my new digital recording gear.

Brian & Aitch ----- I played NAR on my car stereo at lunchtime here, with 8 speakers and sub-woofer, etc. at an appreciable volume, and it sounded excellent !! Couldn't do it justice listening on my laptop in the office ! A real catchy tune.... Wish you guys had continued the little instrumental jam at the end for a few more bars, as its rockin ...... Maybe you'll put out an Anthology/Outtake version with the full ten minute jam ??

You're very kind, Richard!
Brian and I have just finished chatting on MSN for the last hour or so and you have set the creative juices flowing. He's going to work on something that will extend the ending. I'm not sure what my involvement will be (I'm only the boring rhythm player, after all) but knowing Brian it will be good stuff!
Who knows...... perhaps the current ending will become a bridge!
Then we'll do a heavy metal version followed by a 'techno rap' one.
Only kidding..........

Hi Richard,
Thank you for making us aware that the lead is perhaps too short. After a small amount of consideration, I really do think your suggestion has some merit.
Notwithstanding the fact that many people apparently find extended solos boring, I think that I can find a way to satiate the appetite for just a tad more lead. Thanks to your comment, I have in fact come up with an idea for a new arrangement that involves a bit of a bluesy lead tag at the end. Obviously it will be something that suits my playing style. I will try out and see if it fills the bill. I'll keep you posted.
This type of input is exactly what I was looking for from forum members. If as a result of your comments, we can make this song better, Aitch and I are willing give it a go.

I don't think it could happen in this Forum, that anyone would think of any extended solos with Rickenbacker instruments to be boring, especially when in the context of a Beatley-type arrangement like NAR !! Brian, since you mentioned Blues-type sound, that also made me think of that Get Back Sessions version of "You Never Give Me Your Money" (available in Bootlegs) where the Fabs went off into a Bluesy sounding jam at the end of YNGMYM for a few minutes. I hope you guys have as much fun putting it together, as we do in listening and enjoying ICBM music.
