I bought this yesterday. I find the new remixes excellent, but at least half of it sounds the same as the originals!!

What goes on!!

I ordered it last night after seeing the news piece on CNN.

Incidentally, I thought GM looked a bit frail...it's strange how these guys are all frozen in time for me...hard to believe Anthology was that long ago.

Indeed. I read about it on CNN and elsewhere and the idea of rehashes leaves me underwhelmed.

This one is weird, though, when you hear what the original recording COULD sound like.

Robert, I agree with you. I loved the remixes, but some of the songs sound the same. Which I guess is ok except that I have those songs numerous times in various compilations. I thought their would be more remixes and honestly, that is what appealed to me.

An interesting note: When I scanned the CD at Barnes and Noble on the CD player the songs came up McCartney/Lennon.

Brian, glad it is not just me that thinks this.
I suppose I was expecting more from this. I certainly thought it would be more to it than just adding 20 seconds of Blackbird onto the front end of Yesterday and calling it a remix???
The sticker on the front is very misleading - features 26 re-worked tracks. As I have already commented above at least 10 of them do not sound any different.(apart from the obvious remastering).

"Within You Without You" with the drum tracks from "Tomorrow Never Knows" is almost worth the price of admission.

It (the CD) might draw a new audience into Beatles' music.

"It (the CD) might draw a new audience into Beatles' music."

I have a bunch of "Beatles" ties that I wear, usually on Fridays (my little reminder to myself I'm not in the military anymore ;-)) Anyway, the place where I get my haircut has a young 20-something working the counter; I go in there other day and she's all "OMG! What a great tie!" (the Revolver cover one).. So I ask if she's a fan--"They're the best!!!"

We're in good hands my friends!! ;-)

Robert, I actually like the Blackbird beginning to Yesterday.

Jerry, Within You Without You and Tomorrow Never Knows mix was excellent.

I also enjoyed the Hard Day's Night/ The End/ Get Back mix.

I was just hoping for more mixes, just to hear a new sound from some old songs. Don't get me wrong. I love the old songs, but I was under the impression that remixes were the order of the day.

Perhaps the call will be heard and we'll get a part II, full of remixes/mash-ups (by the Martins, of course)!

This CD reminded me of the Stars on 45 Beatle medley from the 80s. Not sure why....

Thanks for bringing back that memory Gerald! It took me years of counseling to forget. Oh well, I haven't visited a good therapist in a while.

Here are couple of links of interest regarding this release.

This is a preview of the album, written by Rolling Stone, not sure of the date, but it shows a different track list and includes a version of Girl that did not make it on to the album. Wonder why not?

This one is a 1 hour documentary 'making of the album' and is available on the listen again section, on bbc 6 music. Fascinating stuff.

Sorry about that Brian... For some reason I didn't even think about the Movie Medley that came out either...

At least we can hear the lead guitar of "I want to hold your hand" very clearly now in the center channel.
