Imagine, the Beatles at live aid.
Chaos is a great album. It was much better than "Driving Rain." Red Rose Speedway was Wings getting comfortable with each other. Great Album.

I agree Richard. I think Chaos and Creation is a very good album. I think of Red Rose Speedway (great album title IMO) was a building block and you were hopeful for future releases.

I feel the same way about "RRS", it has that great hopefull quality to it.
"Chaos..." though, it's easy to admire but hard to love. Some songs feel under arranged (fine line), or not completed "never happened before", or in the case of "anyway", it's another song!
I like a lot of the individual songs, and hearing McCartney be so dark is interesting, but there is something about the album that keeps me from getting all the way thru it, some sort of sameness creeps in.
"Driving Rain" is more uneven, and has a harsh tone to it, but I like it better.
In fact "chaos..." lacks variety to my ears.
Just my opinion!

If the Beatles played Live Aid in 1985...
* Paul would have worn a baggy turquoise shirt with little white and yellow triangles and a ribbon of pink running through, with pleated black pants that taper to the ankle.
* John would have worn a bright yellow long sleeve-shirt over a black tank top t-shirt, open, so that it could billow in the wind. White pants. No socks.
* Ringo would have worn an oversize Stewart plaid blazer with a tuxedo shirt and acid washed jeans. And a sweatband on his brow.
* George would have worn a full length overcoat made of linen, with pleated khaki pants and light blue shirt that said 'Giorgio' in pink lettering.
Personally, I'm glad it never happened.

Ethan that is hilarious!
As far as bands coming back, I have a little theory... tell me if this makes any sense!
Bands that try and come back always have to fight their own nostalgia, and they usually lose whether they have good tunes or not.
I was born in 1969, so the beatles were always "old". So R.E.M. is the band that exemplifies this for me. When I saw them last year, it was a good show, but I'm not in college, or 19 anymore, and as good as their new stuff may be (or IMO, boring/bland as it may be) it just doesn't make me feel the same way, because I'm not that young kid that's really into that band.
No new Paul McCartney album is going to make someone feel like they did when "abbey road" came out because it's not 1969 anymore, and we've heard tons of things from him, so it just can't feel as fresh. It can still be great stuff, and personally I still hope for another great REM album, but just like the new star wars films seemed lame (and lets face it, the originals were not that great!)....
Everything has it's time and place, and all things must pass.

Well put. Good R.E.M. example, as I saw them live in 1984, but didn't want to go in the late 90's, as the memory of that earlier concert is so good. Even if the memory isn't accurate, I don't wish to mess with it. Some bands I will go see again to watch them evolve, but many I'd rather just leave in the pleasant past, where everything is perfect and happy.
How much!?!

Some of you might remember that there actually was a “rumor” that the remaining Beatles would reunite at Live Aid.
During the radio broadcast (done by MTV Vee-Jays? I don’t remember.) when Paul came out (with others) to sing “Let It Be” the stupid female announcer said “There IS a reunion on stage.” And the male announcer then quickly added, “Yes, but it is not a Beatles reunion.”

My wife is 31, my sister in law, now living with us, is 29. They came from a non-westernized country (pretty much). My daughter is almost 4. All Beatles' tunes are fresh and new to them.
I enjoy brainwashing them!
Harrison, McCartney, Starr and Clapton jammed at Clapton's marriage to Patti. No video?!!??!
