Kenny Howes 1966 4005 Repaid

Kenny sent me his 4005 that had been hammer and chiseled for Gibson EB-1 pickups. This was 1 of the worst mods I've ever seen. They internal braces had been drilled/cut away and they had to be repaired. I cut new pieces of Maple and glued them to the original braces, then the holes were routed oversize to accept the new pieces of Maple that will fill the routed holes. I have a hard time understanding why someone would want to do this kind of modification to a Bass Guitar.

It looks great Kenny! That birdseye back is incredible. But are you going to have to go with a solid color?

If it wouldn't show the patches on the front too much, I'd go with a Deep Burgundyglo---simply to show off the back....that wood is really really nice.

Kenny, it sure does have beautiful figuring. Lovely bass and what John asked. Que color?

I can't believe anyone would do that to a 4005 with such beautiful wood. Talk about blasphemy.
That one cut that goes into the control cavity cutout is very hairy looking.

How about a reverse tobaccoburst with the dark in the center to cover up the patches?
I wonder if this has ever been done and what it would look like.

I agree that a reverse burst would be the best way to go. Solid in the center, fading toward the edges and growing lighter as rounds the edges towards the back side. Hmm..that actually sounds a bit odd so maybe the front could be solid all the way to the edges and after it moves around to the back, it could fade out quickly.
