Gotta love the free enterprise system! There's a crystal/jewelery store here that was selling pieces of a meteroite that fell in the Ukraine I believe, and polished stones from it had been made into settings..at least they were pretty...might be a reflection, but the pick on the right kinda looks like a piece of formica!

A little pricey!
Regular stone ones would be as nice, or better, & much cheaper. A tad hard on strings, though, but they do last forever (as long as you don't drop 'em)!

George, what one is seeing on the one on the right are reflections from distinct grains in the metal. I've seen cut and polished iron meteorites in museums, and they all have odd reflectivity toward light. Here's another picture from the craigslist ad that I edited out of the screenshot above that shows that quality:

One potential problem that I see with such a pick is the possibility that it might become magnetized (iron-nickel alloy, essentially) and thus mess up the pickups if played near them.

I've been looking for a metal pick. I did manage to find a sustitute in the form of a 50p. That was untill I found that it's not the best tool for hitting individual strings as the sides kept catching. It's more of a bludgeon for when you want a really harsh sound and you're not really too bothered about being loud. Works well with power chords and a tiny bit... well, masses of distortion.

Then I found a metal tipped plastic pleccy. Can't remember the name. I lost it after my first recording session

I'm still looking (but not too seriously) for full metal plectrums for a good, cheap price.

Will, there was a vendor at last year's NAMM show that was selling solid metal picks. I may have one or two of them in my pick box. I'll check after the holiday (Thanksgiving here in the U.S.).

Will, I finally got to looking for those metal picks; I have two of them:

The one on the left is titanium and is therefore very light; the one on the right is smaller but is copper and is a bit heavier. I will take them to work tomorrow and weigh them.

The company, Big West Creation, is based in Japan and has a Japanese-only website: http://msy.or.tv/link/oonisi.htm (interesting wallpaper there!).

I don't remember how much they were, but it may have been as low as $2 each, but I have this feeling that it was more like $5 each (and thus why I'd have bought only a couple).

Edit: I did a quick Yahoo search on "metal guitar picks" and found a U.S. company in Amarillo TX that makes some, too:

and their prices range from $4 to $6, so I'm betting the ones I got at NAMM were $5 each.
