I just got B. Wilson's autograph outside the Beacon Theater. I think tonight is the final performance of P. Sounds, end to end. They said he's booked for the Superbowl halftime show. I'm going to the show tonight. A few guys there said Al signed autographs for all who requested them last night.

Luckily, I was was able to get two autographs and see Brain twice yesterday, as I live half a block from the theater and had the day off (and had some info from walking by on Wednesday and talking to a couple of Beach Boys fanatics.)

So, when he got off of the bus around 4:30, he signed a copy of Pet Sounds for me. Then I went back a couple of hours before the show and met up with a nice guy from Canada who was there the night before and said that that evening Brain had come back out to the bus before the show and autographed a ticket for him. There was also a nice guy from the UK. When I went back I brought a copy of All Summer Long with me and the three of us were standing under awning to avoid the rain.

While we were talking, sure enough, Brain came out to get his wardrobe on the bus. We yelled to him and he waved to us and about ten minutes later, on his way back in, he signed the other album and some stuff for them. I think Jeff was with him again but they were too busy to talk and in fact denied this super autograph hound woman a signature (I think they'd probably seen her 100 times this week.)

We went out for beers after the show and went back around midnight to see if we could get Al's signature (he was signing the night before around midnight) but when we went back he was gone. I gave one guy a copy of "Today" and the other "Pet Sounds" to take home with them.

It was a fun show, and fun to make new music friends. One of the guys taped us with Brain and is going to post it for us when he gets home.

I got an e-mail from Jeff last night...he was supposed to be home (SF area) for Thanksgiving, but the tour has been extended until December 12.

I didn't hear that. I saw that there was not one Rick on stage during the whole show. Has Jeff lost his mind!?

Nope. In fact, Jeff will soon have a new Rick 700/C12 on stage with him...

Tribute to an unknown surf band: kinda long...Attended a show in the mid 60's at a venue that hosted many well known surf bands as well as some soul/doo-wop acts. On this particular evening an unknown group came out on stage consisting of a young bassist and drummer an even younger and very nervous guitarist and later to find out the guitarist sister...on accordian! The poor guitar player had himself a brand new oly white Jaguar that he could not get tuned...at one point the kids Dad came out on stage took the guitar and tuned it for him...as you might imagine, the band started off with a couple of strikes againist them..as they launched into their first tune the crowd got nasty and really started to boo them..it got so bad that they stopped playing and left the stage...at that point our host came out and told the crowd that they were trying to contact The Lively Ones and see if they could make it...no luck...host comes back on stage..asks the crowd to give the band another chance and that they will try and play their best....now, even for a seasoned pro, it would take a lot of nerve to perform in this setting (anyone remember The Blues Brothers doing Stand By Your Man behind the chicken wire?)..the band came out and blew the doors off the joint..I don't recall all their songs but the kid did a version of Miserlou that kicked butt and for some reason the accordian worked..happy ending they won over the crowd and their set ended with cheers instead of jeers..I never saw them play again..don't remember their name..but they were great!

They were, but not as much as it may appear as a lot of the stuff on the Shut Down lps had been previously released.

As with the Beatles, Capitol seemed to spend their time devising new was to sell more LPs, with songs withheld or previously released or both.

We opened for the Lively Ones at The Buena Park Retail Clerks Union Hall on Beach Blvd. We were 14 yrs. old and they were at least in their late teens early 20's or so it seemed. We played our cover tunes: Miserlou and the others. When the Lively Ones played we stood in the wings and watched and listened. The Bass player wore a BaseBall Glove on his right hand which blew us away. April Stevens and her Brother Nino Temple were the Main act that evening. The L.O.'s backed them up while Nino played a wild Sax solo on one of the songs. I got a big hug from April after the show, she thought I was so cute. Man it left me dreamin' for a month.

Shut Down Volume 2 was all new material...the original Shut Down album was a compilation.

I don't think Jeff's 12er will be completed in time for the Super Bowl show...

According to BW's site, his tour has not been extended beyond last night, nor is the S.B. gig been announced.

Hey Dale...what was with the baseball glove? Saw the surf band the Pyronauts bass player use a big caveman bone to slap his bass a couple years back..Nino Tempo produced a cd for April Stevens not too long ago..titled Carousel Dreams..let me know if you need some info on how to find a copy.
