What a story. On Thanksgiving to boot! Maurice was just awesome. Every bit as crucial to those BeeGees records as Macca was to his. I remember early on always having to defend them in the face of all my AC-DC/Rush/Nugent bandmates, and never flagged. I was thrilled to find out that Maurice actually played on all the hits, not some studio cat. Redemption! And then to find out it was often a Rick was the icing. I do recall a mid-70s period where he used a Precision, but he would certainly qualify as a Rick legend, along with Macca, Chris, Geddy, et al. But, thanks for that story!

Thanks Ethan.

I'll have to check out the new box set. Are there any pictures of the bass in there?

The tone is nearly all bass on the early albums. You can tell McCartney was the influence and the toaster on the bass is very powerful and boomy, much more so than the other 60's basses that I have.

I am hoping to get more information later this year on the bass. I'll take some new photo's too.

Here's a few old ones:

Yes, lots of pictures of the bass in the booklets. Even a few from it's fireglo days! The box consists of their first three 'internationally available' albums (as opposed the the ones only released in Australia), each packaged in a double digipack - stereo and mono versions on the first disc of each set, alternates, singles and rare tracks on the second disc. Each album has its own booklet.

The only strange thing about the box is that they were very careful to include both stereo and mono versions of album - to the point of including the original mono mix of 'Horizontal', which was mastered slightly faster than the stereo version - yet many 'single only' tracks are present in only in stereo! Peculiar.

Andrew, thanks for sharing those photos! That's a killer bass.
