I'm stuck at work at the moment, Wints, but I have the live scorecard window on my desktop. I haven't booked any tickets for the Melbourne test - I was too late. Looks like telly and tinnies all summer - even when I'm digging up the back yard tomorrow....... my version of an 'outside broadcast'! Image

Let's not talk too soon..... we won the first test easily last year but lost the ashes!!

No, not at all, Wints. Harmison needs a good kick up the proverbial, I reckon. He didn't bowl that garbage in England in '05!!

Well, it looks like we found some spine Aitch...Not sure it can last another whole day though!

If we can get through the morning session without losing a wicket it could be interesting.

In the UK we could always count on the weather as the 12th man and to lose us a few hours!

That may happen today, Wints, so all is not lost. I agree - they batted very well yesterday and if they can raise the level of their bowling to match it then it should be a much more even series. I would enjoy that far more than a whitewash!

No surprises there today Aitch.

The next match will be the acid test. 2-0 down and we can forget about this as a series. A draw or dare I say it, a possible victory and it will be all to play for again.

I have to say at present I can only see one outcome...

You're right, Wints - although I expected it to go further into the day. Adelaide will be interesting. It's usually a pretty flat track, so the bowlers will find it tough and the batsmen probably won't have to deal with big cracks and the resultant uncertainties.

I haven't given up on a tight series yet but I think the biggest factor working for the Aussies is the depth we have. One guy gets injured and there are three or four others more than capable of filling the spot.

I knew enough about Cricket to be in on the topic, but not the specifics - I take it there is a big international tournament going. Australia teams beating England?

Yes, John. It's the regular England vs. Australia 'Ashes' test match series. Life and death stuff to some!

Each match is played over 5 days unless one team defeats the other beforehand. If there's no result after 5 days it's a draw.

It's hard to explain what it means to devotees but perhaps a useful (but not similar) analogy might be Canada vs. America in ice hockey. I know it doesn't happen but if there were five matches every year or so and the winner got the trophy and bragging rights I imagine there would be a substantial amount of fervour about the place. 'National pride' and all that........

Next time we meet we'll perhaps discuss it - and maybe the origin and future of the universe - over a cigar or two and a few drinks.

Nah!! Let's just get stuck into the 'gars and drinks, eh? Image

I'm up for it! I already mentioned to my wife the probability of a rerun next August in Santa Ana and she didn't balk, so we'll see what 2007 brings, hey?! Maybe she'll come and enjoy the sun on the patio - bottles? Uhhh, not her!

Well Aitch...

One is feeling a little more optimistic today. Today will need a major knock for your boys to look forward to a draw it would seem. I think the major thing was we didn't lose another...

Personally, I think Ricky and the boys are good for 500...

A brilliant job by the lads from the old country, Wints. It's not that our bowlers weren't that bad at all - Collo and KP (they deserve Aussie nicknames after that) were absolutely on top of their game.... just fantastic!!

Can't understand why Warnie bowled around the wicket to the right-handers for so long - they clubbed him all over the park!!

We've got some real work ahead of us if we're going to come out of this with a draw and it ain't looking too good at this stage. Perhaps Punter can crack a double! Image
