Well I've joined the 4003 AFG club today. I was out on the Web and saw one listed at Bass Emporium. I called and it had been sold two hours prior. So I looked at the Ric site and saw that Classic Axe in Gainesville, VA received one and it was fortunately still in stock. So I drove by on my way to band practice, tried it out and the rest is history.
I noticed that this one seems to have a more robust tone in both positions (VTC and non-VTC) than my last 4003. It has a very distinct piano tone with a bit more in the fundamental. It was a blast to play at band practice. I picked up a set of DR Lo-Riders and I should have those on and the bass set up before Saturday night's gig.
Now if the 4004Cii/% would be redone, I'd be set.

If you think all is going well, you've obviously overlooked something.

Ron...funny to read your post. I think I bought that AFG from Bass Emporium, as I ordered it right about the end of Nov 06. Even funnier, I live in NoVA, and probably could have gone to Classic Axe and bought your eventual axe myself. Small world. One postscript...when Bass Emporium shipped it, UPS evidently dropped it, as one of the case feet got crushed into the case, creating a crack. John at Bass Emporium has been trying for a couple of months now to get me a replacement from RIC. So far, no joy. But, the guitar itself is great. I think I prefer my 76 4001 more, but this new one is beautiful.

Nab,
Did your dealer allow you to place the order? I thought that the deadline for ordering was December 31st, as it was COY for '06...

Kevin:
yep...actually tried to post a picture at another thread (Which Amp?) but the site would not let me upload a pic. Maybe a server problem? Will try again.
Thanks for the welcome. After lurking for a long time, decided I had to point out the humor in my AFG purchase.
