Costly Mistake Revisited

I have bought a new Ric tailpiece for my 92 4003,which i had tried to straighten out in October and failed.Working in a football stadium,we played Chelsea last night,so i did'nt get chance to fit it until 11:30 last night.I have never been so pleased to play my bass,so remember DON'T mess with things on your bass that you may and will regret to your cost.Always seek professional advice first,from all of you on this forum.

Glad to hear you got her working Shawn.

These little dramas are why you need a bass collection. I seem to generate more work every time I attempt to work on one of my guitars. Great fun though.

My other bass ( a 1964 Hofner violin bass ) is retired now,so maybe a second Ric would not be a bad idea.And changing strings is as far as i'm going to go when working on my bass now.But your right it's great to to have her working again.

A second Rick is always a great idea. Then you can have one for different gigs, or have different strings, etc.
Next comes having one in every finish you like (and even some you don't like as much).
There's no end to it!

I only have my Burgundy '75 4001s and... I'm sure she loves me, otherwise she didn't let me do her all what I do. She loves me to play her as much as I love playing her but when it comes into a repair or something technical I know she feels scared but, at last, she is too confident with me. Anyway, and I don't mean to be unfaith to her, I'd love to have another Rick or a harem of Ricks, by now I share my hands and love with my 75 4001s and my Hofner 5001

Yeh beside my 4003, I have other basses. Only having one is to short... Now I want a dutch luthier build me a new neck for my great love. It's an old Squier P bass that was already cutomized with an extra J bridge pup. Now I want her to have a j neck from flamed maple with a birdseyemaple fretboard. I played this bass for ten years and want her back in good shape to be my second bass next to my 4003. Beside that I have two carbon neck basses - one from Status Graphite and a Dutch bass called Catalist Tigris. Oh then for the sake of fun I have a Flying V bass and for the sake of collecting I own the Steve Harris - Iron Maiden P bass. Beside that I own some guitars and total on 15 Instruments..... now thats sick ain't it?

I think 15 is a pretty reasonable amount.
I also hope to have that many someday.

Kevin you just have to buy them, and take them home. Then be shure your wife won't kill you....LOL It took my more then 20 years to collect them, and my guitars aren't expensive. This is because I'm a bassplayer who loves to play guitar sometimes. I have a Korean Fender Strat and an Epiphone Les Paul and that kind of stuff. Not good, not bad just workhorses. I pay more attention to my basses, and these are more expensive. I'm not good enough on guitar to justify that sort of expences. And then I have three guitars which I inherited from my father when he passed away. And so the collection grows....

Well, in the not too distant past I owned fifteen Rickenbacker basses, including my 4080. Plus the mandatory Gibson and Fender basses. Now all that's left are the 4080, the April '74 4001, the February '76 4001, the August '70 21 fret 4001, and the November '70 21 fret 4001, but I sure miss the ones I let go. So, Sergio, do yourself a favour and buy a harem of Ricks at your earliest convenience!

Buy them and expand the collection while you're single and gigging. Then, when you're married, you can trade them in for upgrades (but, unfortunately, the ceiling number will likely remain whatever it was when you became no longer single, although the occasional upgrades may fly...). YMMV...
