Yo, Jeff Thomas (73 4001 Content)

Post by markbass99 »

Jeff just recently got a transition July 73 4001 that has check binding and small inlays, it's got to be close to one of the last ones with CB as most of the July's I've seen had solid binding. He wanted to see some of my pics from a previous post(you know how fast the threads fall off on the fast moving bass section). So here are some pics of my Feb.73 jetglo, April 73 dark burgundy, and for now, May 73 fireglo.

This one is my favorite, you can't beat jetglo + MOP inlays, it's the classic combination, just ask John Biscuti.

I would post some pics of the fireglo but I haven't taken that many since Paul W. is going to refinish it to azureglo....soon. so here's some pics of another transition 73(not mine), s/n MF that has a combination of old and new features like the one Jeff just got.

John you're crashing a thread about 73 4001's with a V68, you could have made that a V73 and it would have fit in a little better. ImageImageImage

My July '73 (MG) has small inlays, checker binding and 1/2" position toaster.

Jeff...You could have had my 73 "problem child"...

I found out on closer inspection this week that the cavity is really more like the 1" spacing and that a 1/2" guard will never fit, unless I rout the cavity out.

So, I have the C/B and the toaster, but small inlays and the 1" spacing cavity and pickguard.

All this with a MC serial number....

I forgot about Jeff Scott's July with CB, does it have wavy grovers or did you put your preferred hipshot ultralites on there? Image I don't think I've ever seen an August with CB, July was probably close to the end of the run.

Wints you have a "frankenrick", it's an enigma of 73 production, even the 74's had the half inch spacing. You definitely have some odd ricks in your collection, like the green one.

My August '73. I often wonder if it was the last 4001 to be made with checkered binding.

Wow that August is super rare(sounds like an ebay ad), that's got to be the only one I've ever seen. Does it have wavy grovers?

Beautiful basses guys!

Jeffrey,

Do the ultralites "drop-in" with no mods?
I'm not really digging the Grovers on my '72, but don't want to hack it up.
