Mini-toggle switch and the .0047 cap

Post by loverickbass »

Hello all! New guy here. Been lurking around for a time. I'm trying to wire in a mini-toggle switch on my 4003 for the cap mod. A few questions, do I need a spdt or dpdt? After I have the correct switch, where do all of the wires go on the switch and where does the cap come into the mix? I know to put the cap between the treble volume pot and the pickup selector switch. I've looked around the site for info but I couldn't find anything this technical on this topic.

Hi Joseph.

Cut the wire connecting the middle lug of the treble volume control to the pickup selector switch. Solder one cut end to one side of the capacitor AND one terminal of a SPST switch. Solder the other cut end to the other side of the capacitor AND the other switch terminal.

The switch connects directly across the capacitor so that when the switch is engaged, the cap. will be shorted, effectively making it "disappear" electronically.

If you have a SPDT switch, just use the middle lug and one end lug. Same for a DPDT switch - just use one of the two poles.

Thanks John. This 4003 is my "baby" so I want to make sure I get it right.

I think I read somewhere here that the 6 stringers had the .0047 cap in the bridge pickup as well, is this true? I've got a 381v69 coming from Pick of the Ricks and I would like to do the same to it if the 69 381's had the cap.
