Yes Years DVD

While Christmas shopping on saturday i found a copy of yes years on dvd.This was filmed in 1991 during the Reunion Tour,it's over 2 hours long and has Chris Squire using a Ric acoustic,and Jon using a Ric 425 in the studio.There are a few clips of Chris using different Ric basses,a good buy all round at only £7.99 aprox $14.Has anyone else seen this dvd.

I bought that on VHS when it came out after the Union Tour, I think around the same time as the box set. The song you're referring to is the acoustic version of Long Distance Runaround, if I remember correctly, performed at a slower tempo and in the lower key of C#min. I always hoped a full version of that would surface on a CD someday.

A good bit of that was filmed in Pensacola, Florida, the night before I saw them in Orlando and a short clip of a musician that I used to work with named Mike Franklin (Rockin' Robin) appears with Rick Wakeman at sound check. This guy was always telling me he knew Rick, guess it was true!

Chris also appears in that video playing his MG 4001 with full MOP inlays, as opposed to his more famous Ric, which may have been in for repairs at the time. There is a lot of Yes history revealed in snippits in the video if you watch closely!

It is an amazing documentary,clips of the band in the studio,live etc.It was good to hear what the members had to say about how the songs where put together and what parts from classical or t.v themes they used.Chris is also seen with a fireglo 4001s on the clip of his solo track,hold out your hand.

I believe that FG was the one purchased from Donavon. On "The Syn" web site, there was a picture of a very young Chris Squire also playing a FG 4001s, I think that was the one that got the refin and became so famous. But I don't know for sure if that issue was ever settled. I've never heard Chris refer to his favorite 4001 in its original finish.

I'll be in England with my Kidlington born wife Donna next summer, mostly around Oxford area. Maybe you can tell me some of the historical YES places to visit, i.e., La Chasse club, (still around, if just the building?) Advision Studios, etc. The book "Close to the Edge, the story of Yes" gives a lot of actuall addresses and such.

I have the Entwistle dvd "Ox's tail" and on that dvd Squire is making comments about Entwistle and Squire is holding what appears to be a fireglo 70s 4001 with binding and triangle inlays ...

Ill have to check this out. I went into a Yes thing a little bit back. Learned a couple songs back to back. Chip try'd making me learn the whole 90125 album, but I wanted to get back to some finger work lol.

So is it mainly just a documentary of them in the studio and what not? I watched a Steely dan vid like this I believe. It was pretty kool. Had some of the session guys talking (Chuck Rainey). And they broke down some of the different tracks on some songs. Its really different hearing the parts cut out from the rest.

It's much more than the Steely Dan DVD. It's over 2 hours. The only bad thing about it is it stops in '91 when it was made there's so much that came after it. It's great to hear Bruford talking about his time in Yes.
I actually have Yes Years on Laser Disc.

I just attended a drum clinic with Bill Bruford, even though I'm a guitarist / bassist, and he still talks about having to develop a different drum technique in order to compete with Squire's Rickenbacker. Fascinating stuff!

I hope that they can tour again it would be great to see them live.I was dissapointed that on the 35th Anniversary tour dvd,they did'nt include the Chris Squire bass solo.

but it DID include them FINALLY playing "South Side of the Sky" live, my all time favorite. Too bad Chris was playing the Moradian and not the 4001. The middle section of South Side is classic Chris Squire, vocals and bass.

Actually, I can't think of any live Yes video that includes "The Fish" or even "White-Fish" solos. It was not on Yessongs (the film). Does anyone know of a version somewhere that I'm forgetting?

Yes South Side of the Sky is a classic track,and the only time i have seen Chris Squire doing a solo is on his instructional dvd.

What is the actual title of that DVD, Shawn? I know I came across it on VHS back in the 80's but did not buy it then. Still Available? It's not on Chris's or Yes's site.

I think it was Hot Licks or Star Licks it was around 1991.The bass solo at the end is Amazing Grace.He also shows off some of his bass collection including his Limited Edition bass.I think you can still get hold of a copy on Ebay on VHS,I had mine transfered to dvd before i wore it out watching it all the time.
