Stolen Ricks database ?

Post by rickengrowl »

Hi,
I'm about to pick up a 4001CS, and before purchasing I'd like to check that this is not a stolen bass.
Is there any database of stolen Ricks somewhere ?
Thanks in advance,
All the best,
JL

Mind I ask: Did you have problems with purchasing stolen instruments before?

It must really stink when you purchase your "Dream Guitar", just to find out it's stolen and have to return it to the owner.
I think that's one of my worst nightmares for just about anything I buy. Thank God this hasn't happened to me, yet.

When I was a kid I bought a Hofner bass for $50.00! It had been stolen from the next town, I didn't care I didn't know who it had been taken from, I joined a band in that next town about a month later and it turned out to be their old bass players, I ended up giving it back and learning a lesson as 50 bucks is hard to come by (or it was 32 years ago) when you are 18.

Jean, you could email John Hall with the SN and ask him to verify where the bass was originally sold. If it's not being sold by the original owner, at least it might help ease your mind if the seller's story seems to fit with the known location of the original buyer.

Thanks anyway Brad.
Emailing JH is a good advice, and that's probably what I'll do if I ever have doubts about any further RIC I plan to buy.
Thanks again,
All the best,
