Ahmet Ertegun

Post by shamustwin »

Atlantic Records founder and contributor to the history of Rock and Roll, R&B and jazz in so very many ways, fell at a Rolling Stones concert and sustained traumatic head injuries.

They are saying full recovery might not be possible.

My prayers for him and to his family.

Interesting fact: Frank Zappa's son Ahmet was named after him.

One of the last centuries musical giants.

Let's hope there is a recovery.

That guy is responsible for so much great stuff it's not even funny.
The landscape of modern music would be drastically different without him.

Let's hope for a recovery indeed.

I work with brain injured patients, you never know, there are some miraculous recoveries sometime, he is pretty old though and that bodes against him. He's one of the giants along with the Chess brothers.

One of my favorite stories is from a 1969 Phil Spector Rolling Stone interview where he stated that Otis Redding always called him "Ahmlet." I always got a giggle out of that.

A giant who helped pioneer R&R with what true great executives do -- take a chance on real talent!

..."Take(s) a chance on real talent"...that's why his name is known, and countless other music executives will live forever in anonymity!

When I first read the liner notes on an album his name was on, too many years ago to remember which, I remember thinking was it a made up name or scrambled so he could maintain some anominitity. Then I learned more about him. We need someone like him now to stand up to the board/shareholders so to reinvigorate American rock!

Sad indeed. We are very lucky he came here and did all he did for the music scene through all those decades.

Farewell to a man who valued substance over style. He will be missed.
