Serial Number Question

Post by cavernplayer »

Can you tell the year of a Ric bass from the serial number? In this case it's PF above the input jack and 4292 below the jack. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

That would be June of 1976. See more on the system here:

PF = June (F) 1976 (P) date of manufacture. Here's a resource for the date codes:

The Music Connection (Rickenbacker Page) site shows how the numbering system works (and changed), while the RIC site will tell you what YOUR number is, not how it figures into the system.

I didn't have to look PF up, as I have a few instruments made in June (F) and I had a July (G) 1976 (P) 3001. After a while certain dates stick in ones mind.
