Francesco, waited a few days too long to compliment you for a great job! Very enjoyable. You just got discovered on another bulletin board this morning, www.beatgearcavern.com, and they're extending an invitation to come over and visit, since we're all basically into Paul/Hofner/Ricks/Squire/Beatles full time! Love to see you stop in. I know the folks were just blown away by the YouTube stuff, as was I. Thanks!

Francesco,

You are simply amazing. Thanks for sharing your great work on the fretboard not to mention your chops.

Thank you all Image
I am just having some fun filming those clips, it's not intended to sound like: "Hey guys, look how good I am", and as long as that "fun" continues, I'll probably keep on enjoying it....As I said in another topic (if I remember), if I were THAT good I'd be touring with Paul McCartney, not Rusty or whoever plays bass guitar in his band Image
I play by ear and by memory, I do not use Tabs (I probably can't even read one because I never needed), bass lines I have in mind have been achieved after years of listening to the beatles discography. Humbly, I would say that around 95% of my notes are exactly the ones played by Paul in the original records... Not the 100%, sorry, but playing by memory more than 200 songs it does not allow me to be closer than this...Some songs turn out perfectly, some others less...Well, I am not Sir Paul even if I am sure that nowadays he could not remember exactly what the hell he played, note by note, 40yrs ago...I am not playing a bright, listenable, melodic 20 seconds guitar solo, that you can reproduce exactly... 250 songs bass lines are something else, for sure...I do not practice half an hour before filming a song...I just plug and play what comes in mind...20 minutes are enough to film 4-5 songs, it has never happened that I had to stop and do it again...
So, let's enjoy for the way it is...a domestic fun.. waiting for "The Ace" able to play "THAT GOOD"... besides to use pretty well his PC keyboard ;)

Francesco;
Please tell me how you learned to play the way you do? Lessons, instruction books, etc? Thanks.

Francesco, those clips youve posted are great. Clearly most of the tone is your technique but do you mind revealing the pick up/ tone / volume settings you use on that v63, and whether you use the bridge mute to get that McCartney sound?

Most of the songs are played this way:
Amp eq flat position (Ashdown Abm C-115 325W 1x15")
bass pickup volumes at max position and tones at minimum position
and yes, 67/68 songs are performed using the stringmute as Paul did

Francesco, have to admit that since our paths crossed a few weeks back, I've been playing the Hofners non-stop, and having a ball sitting here refreshing my Macca memory. Thanks! Hope all's well and that you'll have a great Christmas.
