Richard X. Heyman

Post by longhouse »

With his '65 Ric 375 (and a few others) Richard X. Heyman is a guitarist/songwriter/singer/pianist whom everyone should hear.
Brilliant songs and masterful use of his guitars.
You cannot listen to one of his records without getting a big smile on your face and an itch on your fingers to play guitar...
His tones are near perfect and his Ric pedigree slips through in certain McGuinn and Harrison-isms. Peter Buck might nod in approval too.
The solos are spot on and his singing is completely enjoyable.
Have a listen to the sound samples at his website:

I had the chance to meet him at taping of Mountain Stage, last Winter. He (and his bassist/wife) were a joy to meet -and talk gear with. He played this guitar:

He's worth your time. Give him a chance.

-my initial review (posted elsewhere):

My first impressions were:
1 Stunned
2 Amazed
3 Happy
Richard X. Heyman is a talented singer/songwriter/guitarist/multi-instrumentalist with a voice which echoes the better qualities of Elvis Costello, Mike Viola, Paul Westerberg, John Wesley Harding, and Dan Trisko (of Velvet Elvis).
His songs could be considered power pop, but it's more than that. Much more.
He seems to play Rickenbacker 6 and 12 strings and Fender Telecasters exclusively for his electric tones. What he does with them is staggering at times; gorgeous layers, impeccable tone, precise phrasing, and oh yeah he kicks a$$. Driving butt-shaking rock music.
He's on an independant label, naturally. Paul Westerberg can only dream of making music like this.

Great music.
Cheers, Noel
