My V63 is an 1988 model, so I can't comment on later models, but the neck is nice, thin and strong too. And it sounds great with D'Addario Chromes flats!
I recently went back to playing a Rickenbacker bass. Its like meeting an old friend again

An 88 should also have the 500k ohm tone pots which will give it more treble bite ... A few years ago I had a chance to pick up a used 4001v63 for $700 at Guitar center ... I should have done it ...
