Notice how the EA magnet is open wider than the GD magnet? That is the correct way to do it.

I'll have to admit, I've never owned a rick with shoes, but if I did those babies would be coming off.(That's probably why I've never sought one out)

Sorry Andy,,,,,I see your speechless Image

The shoes on mine are pretty thick. What really surprised me was how heavy they were when I removed them.

Pure cosmetic detail, made me alter my playing style, and extra weight. It just made sense for me and my playing technique to remove them. If I ever sell it they will be re-installed.

I had a CS and took the shoes off, and when I got a c64s I thought I would do the same, but after playing with them on a bit I realized that they changed where I pick.

I would always pick over the bridge pup, and I didn't get the sound I was looking for. The shoes make me pick up closer to the neck, and voila! that tone I was wanting came out!

If they were functional as in being the magnets themselves, you would have no choice!

Scott, you're right about the weight. When I got my new pickup for my CS (with shoes) I'd swear it added about a pound and a half to the bass.

I love the look of the shoes, but they're positioned right where I play most of the time. I'm just glad removing them isn't a *permanent* modification.

If I used a pick, I'd take my shoes off, but most of the time I don't. I place my thumb on the shoe and play right behind the pu. Feels very natural to me.

I wish I had a horseshoe pickup on my 4001. To me it's functional - I anchor my palm on the cover when I play. I like the feel of the cold metal more than the hi-gain's plastic cover. Years of playing Fender basses (with the chrome plated covers) do that to you.
