I'm new to this forum. Hope I've put this question in the right place.
I've been playing guitar for 30 years now - everything but a Rickenbacker. But now it's time and I want to make sure I make the right choice. I suppose more than anything I want to be able to re-create that 60's Byrds sound.
Right now I'm looking at getting a 360/12 or a 370/12. My questions: What is the purpose (or effect) of the third pickup on the 370/12? What is the overall difference in the sound between the 360 and 370 as a result of that pickup? And does that third pickup get in the way of picking?
Any help on this will be appreciated!
2 or 3 Pick-ups?

I'm with Noel on this one. He & I both have a re-issue 1997SPC and I think he has stated in the past that the extra pick-up provides a bit more fullness and tonal variety. At least *I* think it does anyway. Any problem with the middle pick-up getting in the way of picking is probably going to be psychological. Go with the 3rd pick-up if you can, but don't worry if you decide against it. You're still getting a great guitar either way.
