4001 / 4003 Question form a 6 stringer

Post by captsandwich »

A friend is looking to buy a bass. He went to see a late 70's 4001, but it's a little too expensive for his budget. The same shop told him they will have a late 80's bass for sale in early January for about $1000 less. What are the technical differences between a 4001 & a 4003? Would they be enough to make such a difference or is this just the lunacy of the vintage guitar market?
