Hofner Verythin Standard

What would the value be approximately on a Cherry finish Hofner Verythin Standard with the deluxe case that comes with these be? I was told it has about 5 hours play time on it and it was offered to me as a trade for a bass I have. My 16 year old guitar playing son loves the look of these but there arent any around here to try. He has an Epiphone Casino--would this be just too similar in sound? Thanks

There are a couple on GuitarBase, one in VG condition for $1299, the other in Excellent condition for $1399; figure that these dealer prices are about 20% higher than a private-party instrument might be priced.
