My first love...

I just snagged this rather odd (to most here) bass. It is exactly the same as my very first bass that I bought back in 1971. It was made in the late 1960’s, short scale, really slim fast neck and has a good Beatles/ Stones tone. This is the only bass that I really, really regret selling. It eared me enough money to buy my first 4001 in 1974.

I hope that it will get to play the odd number at gigs, or even record with it. My first studio sessions were made with this bass and it has a superb vintage tone. I know this bass will do little for anyone else here, but for me after over 20 years of searching hard for a good one, Christmas has come early.

Forgot to add , check the back of the head shot, it still has the Rose Morris sticker on it. I bought my first one second hand when it was about 4 years old and the sticker was gone. This one is about 40 years old...!

Hey Bob,

Congratulations!

I am STILL looking to replace my first love as well.

Funny, that Shaftsbury brand has been popping up a LOT lately.

I've been watching one or two auctions very closely, but being they were in the UK, shipping and duties would not make it worth going after.

But I must admit, I've been tempted! Can you fill me in on the brand as a whole? I'm assuming it is a UK brand?

Enjoy that bass & have a MERRY CHRISTAMS, oops, sorry...a HAPPY Christmas for you folks over the pond!

Thanks Tony, you WILL find yours one day. As Jason says this one in made in Italy. AFAIK the 60's Shaftesburys were made in Italy. They were then made for a short while in Japan in 1969 through to the early 70's.

Don't know any more about them than that except that they are very well made and sound good. Back in 1971 the guy in the shop advised me to get this bass. The best advice I ever had. It played and sounded so good that I haven't stop playing since!

Anyone snag a pic? They are off the auction already.
