That bass has one of the nicest necks ever seen on a RIC. That's why I like early to mid 4001's over 4003's. Funnily enough, the 4004LK has a very early-4001 feel to the neck.

Personally though, I hate MG finished basses. I have no idea why. To me they look huge and unfinished. Sacrilege I know.....

I don't like MG much, either. Too plain, I suppose, but on a V or C series bass it's perfect.

You really don't see many 1971's for sale. Too bad someone used it for a high school shop project.

Yep, production seems to have been increased greatly in '72. Either that, or owners just happen to be holding on to their '71's.
