I paid half that for mine a little over a year ago and it is a perfect '98.

I'd love to have it, especially since I could really use an 8 string bass right now with the band I've recently rejoined...but not at that price.

Did a former owner of that bass think it was a lobster bib?

What is this place doing to me? I never liked white Rics till Ilan made me realise the error of my ways.

I thought the 'S' looked like a poor relation of the deluxe, I've now bought one.

Always though an 8 string would be a total waste of time, but now that I'm getting back into pick style a bit more I'm lusting after this bad boy....

For the record, Willie's is a great shop in St. Paul. Yea that bass is probably too expensive and a lot of their vintage stuff is. But it may also be a consignment piece in which case they'll put it up for whatever the customer THINKS he can get.

I always wanted an 8 string Rick. But if they're going to command those prices I'm probably way out of the running. Does anyone remember what these went for New? I had a chance to buy a new 8-string when I bought my Desert Gold 4003 around 2000 (or whenever DG was the COY) but I passed and bought the 4003.

Missed opportunity I guess.

The 4003S-8 is sometimes referred to as "the lobster bass".
