I'm selling my prized Sea Green 4001 V63. Check the for sale board if you're interested - feel free to e-mail me with any questions too.

Tim-- I've never seen a 4001V63 in person (though one should be arriving soon) but the consensus around here is that it's an exceptionally nice bass. I just hope you don't end up regretting selling yours, especially since it has an uncommon finish.

Thanks for expressing your concern. It is an exceptionally nice bass that I may very well regret selling. I've consider it before and always come to my senses. I really need to this time though. I recently had to buy an upright for some of my work. I also fell in love with an old Guild M-85 I found. I need to pay for these somehow and since I rarely gig with this Ric it makes the most sense to me to sell it. I came close to selling this instead:

but in considering it I realized I've done over 50 gigs with it this past year (one of the groups I work with is a country band) and only three with the Ric. As much as I love the Sea Green it really makes more sense for me to hold onto the tools I use the most.

Tim-- I understand where you're coming from and hope that everything works out to your advantage. Your instrument is tempting since I just recently got in the market for one. But I found a near mint 1998 model in Mapleglo that's being sold by the original owner; delivery should take place in about a week or so. My first choice was Jetglo but those seem to be pretty scarce right now. Absolutely no offense intended, but your initial asking price is more than I can afford at this time. I'm sure your instrument is worth it though since you've kept it in mint condition. No doubt the right buyer will snap it up very soon.

All the best to you.

I bet you will love yours. They are really fine Rickenbackers!

No offense taken - my asking price is higher than other due to the scarcity of the finish. Would love to keep it off E-bay, but we shall see.

Best,

Tim

Tim-- Was checking out your pix of the '69 Fender Telecaster bass. I'm a big fan of the older Fender stuff, but if I'm in your position, I very well could be selling it instead of the 4001V63. Your Fender bass is certainly more suited for playing in your country band, but a set of good flatwounds on the 4001V63 with the tone controls turned completely down would get you reasonably close. If money to cover your recent purchases is the issue, how much do you think you could get out of the Fender T-bass, especially with it's past ownership history?

Listen, I admit to making excuses for keeping the Ric. You know what tone you need for any given playing situation you're involved in. It's just that I hate to see you get rid of a very unique Ric. Some folks may not like the Sea Green finish (I'll confess that it's not at the top of my list of favorites) but, IMHO, the bass is still the equivalent of a desirable gemstone.

Hi Jeff,

It certainly is a decision I struggled with, but I've pretty much made up my mind. The Sea Green really is a gem, but I've really decided to keep those that are played more. I'm not sure how much I could get for the leather tele. I paid a lot - too much probably. I actually sold the Ric this morning to a friend in Canada this morning for my asking price, so at this point I don't even want to think about it too much.

Thanks again for your concern - it is appreciated.

I saw a 68 Tele bass last year at the GC near Boston for $2500.00.
I think rics with Flat wounds are great for country by the way. And you don't even have to turn down the treble because you don't have a million overtones from roundwounds masking the natural fundamental bass note of the flatwound. You can get a nice clear deep tone that is not muffled.

$2500 for a Tele bass is way over priced. $1500... maybe...

I used the Sea Green at a country gig and it sounded fine. Actually sounded great - fit in the mix nice and fat!

Well that's Guitar Center for you, it was nice though, all original and I think it had the covers. Nothing surprises me anymore with guitar and bass prices nowadays. I use my 4003's with flats for the occasional country gig.

I love green guitars...too bad I just bought a 660/12 tur. because I'll also be needing a bass, but just not yet and that would be a model and color I'd try for. Good Luck!

Jeff ( and Mike),

You'll be happy to hear I'm able to hold onto the Sea Green after all. I just landed fat, fat corporate gig that is going to cover me. I told me friend up in Canada I'd still sell it to him as agreed, but asked if he would "release" me from our agreement which he graciously did. I'm very pleased.

Tim,

Congratulations, on both the gig and for holding onto the Sea Green! Don't let that get away from you!
