It will have modern tuning with the tailpiece moved back as far as possible to get the most out of scale length. For that reason and others, a new jarra fingerboard will also be required.

Actually, with the Cii/5 neck, and the right pickups, could it possibly make a 6 string conversion? Comment from Jeff Rath?

Hell, I'd be happy just get an Cii/5 and drop a set of Bartolini soapbars in it.
If you think all is going well, you've obviously overlooked something.

Ron, lately I have been thinking the same thing. I put mine aside hoping for a factory fix but it doesn't look like it's coming anytime soon. With 3 of Jeff's 4-2-5's now, I have enough to get small variations in true Rickenbacker sound. Two are Cii's and one is a Laredo but they each have their own distinct growl and tonality. Would be interesting to consider what type of mods for the Cii/5 to make it playable again.

You could probably convert a 4004cii5 to a six string but then you'd be back to tight spacing at both ends which is something I want to avoid.

Not that I'd ever play a 5, let alone a 6 Image , but that does sound like a pretty good idea!

the 4004cii5 could easily be converted 5-2-6 ... it would have pretty much the same string spacing and neck width as a Carvin 6 string bass ...

Someday I plan to convert a Fender 5 string mim jazz bass 5 to 6 ...

on any bass my left hand really likes a tight string spacing but my right hand likes 1/2" between strings at the bridge ... I can achieve this with my non-ric custom built basses ... the problem with Ric basses is Rickenbacker pickups don't quite cover 2 1/2" ...

Also there is a problem with where do you put the 6th tuner in the 4004cii5 headstock ...

And a 4004cii5 has enough neck width to make it a 10 string bass ... again you have to get creative with the headstock ...

I've resolved the volume drop-off on the B & G strings by moving the saddles of those strings in towards the center of the bridge and using a compressor properly.

I could not wait. I had mine fixed, as soon at it was clear that we were on our own.

That is some nice wood grain, Greg. I don't think we, as a general public, see enough of the translucents. That green is an awesome color, but rare as far as I can tell. I've got delusions of grandeur thinking I may need a green to back up my BBR (hoping I'll get it soon!) if I ever get famous Image
