Whatever happened to that? I used to post on that right around the year 2000 or so, using deja.com which became google. Can't really find it though, now.

Last I saw, it was shouldering on, with a few members. It's how I found this site in 2004.

I hope that someday it rests. It has not been a pleasant place the few times I checked into it, and I took myself off the list a year ago.

I am with you all the way on this one Paul. It will always be one of my most disappointing online experiences.

While alt.guitar.rickenbacker started out with some very good posts from people with honourable intentions, without any mechanism to control for language and hostility it soon attracted those who felt they could say anything they wanted. In the blink of an eye it spiraled into a bubbling cauldron of insensitivity.

I promised myself that if I ever created another forum environment, that I would strive to maintain one in which posters would be protected from belligerent beings shrouded in anonymity.

The old site is still around and occasionally throws up interest with various instruments for sale.

The one vitue of that place is the information going back to the last century.

One can gather much information from the old posts there. I use it as a tool for reference all the time.

What we have here now though is just wonderful...

I agree, many of my old Rick friends were from the old Rickenbacker Project days....JWilli and David McLauglin to name a couple...and to echo Paul's comment, it really has become a tremendous community.

I've wondered that, too ... I bought my first Rickenbacker (a 1992 360/12 MG) in 1998 through the "Dry Goods Swap Shop" (IIRC the title) at the Rickenbacker Project.

I wasn't part of that either, I didn't even own a computer then, LOL. But there are people around that were, I know David McLaughlin (Combo 850) was. John Hall may have been on it too, dunno for sure. Others like Joe Hardman, Larry Wassgren, Tracy Sands maybe....wasn't it almost like an old style 'chat room'? I'll try to get David to chime in...Early internet days....
