I've been waiting to get the 30d for some time, and will make the leap soon.
For years I have been a Canon shooter, and currently have the 1NRS as my main camera. I also have an old matching needle AT1. In the past I've had an FT, F1 w/motor drive, AE1 program, Elan, Elan IIE, and an A2E. All great cameras, although my favorites are still the 1N RS and the AT1. My least favorite in the EOS line is surely the A2E. I "upgraded" to it from the Elan IIE, and the upgrade was a dog next to the Elan. I never cared much for it because it was really a step down in speed, autofocus capability and options when comparing to the IIE, even though it was a couple hundred dollars more money.
In my lens collection, I have one L lens, the 200 f2.8L. Like all Canon lenses, it has incredible glass, is super smooth and quiet, and is very inexpensive compared to most in the L series.
My favorite lens of all is the 85mm 1.8 USM. Incredible lens all around. Phenomenal for portraits and just about anything else. It is my main lens and is always on my camera, whereas my 28-105 USM is secondary for me and is used only occasionally.
Good luck with the 30D. I'd like to hear an update on how you like it once you've used it for awhile.

I loved my F-1. I had the standard finder (non-AE) with the spot metering focusing screen. For lenses, I had all prime lenses: 24/2.8, 35/2.8, 50/3.5 macro, 100/2.8 and 200/4 (I did have a 200/2.8 for a while, but not an L). I also had at my disposal a 17/4, 300/4, and a 35/2.8 TS lens. These days with dust issues and CMOS/CCD sensors it makes sense to go with zoom lenses. Once I have the other zooms I will have a range from (35mm equivalent) of 16mm to 320mm, not bad, plus the 60 macro lens (35mm equivalent is 96mm) that goes to 1:1 which will give me an apparent magnification of 1:1.6 with the 30D!

I'm hoping this year to move add to my original Olympus OM1 and OM2 which I've owned since the 70's 80's to an Olympus E1, buy the converter and be able to make use of all my Zuiko lenses as well as the E1's digital ones.
The OM1 is completely manual and is still my favourite, it's Jetglo however, Olympus don't do Fireglo !

Bob, your 5D produces much larger files than my 30D so that may have something to do with it. I shoot at the Large Fine JPG setting (I haven't worked with the .CR2 files yet, which may also be a reason given how large those files must be). Once I do my various corrections in PS, I just resize the image to the allowable maximum (500x500 pixels) in one step, then 'Save For Web' adjusting the 'quality' setting until I get the file as large as possble but still under the 35K allowed.

My brother used to have an Olympus sytem, starting out with an OM-1 and then getting two OM-3 bodies, with lenses ranging from 24mm through 180mm. He now has a Canon 20D with 16-35/2.8L, 24-70/2.8L and 70-200/2.8L lenses. I wish I could afford those nice lenses, I plan to save up for the f4 L series lenses instead.
A very good friend of mine has the E-1, very nice camera. The lenses he has for it are the 7-14/4, 14-54/2.8-3.5, and 50-200/2.8-3.5. He hasn't really used it so I can't tell you his opinion of it.
However, I do have a client at my photo lab www.labwork-bw.com who uses the E-1 to do wedding photography www.mydiphotography.com; Mydi loves the camera but the last time we spoke, she was contemplating switching systems.

My OM1 has shot literally thousands of rolls of film over the years, mostly Kodak Vericolour and has never once let me down.
It even spent a couple of hours at the bottom of a canal in Scotland in the late 70's, after it was fished out, dried, and serviced it continued to work like clockwork, and still does.
I've got F2.8 24mm, F1.2 50mm F2.8 135mm, 28-150 zoom, 75-250 zoom, all Olympus Zuiko lenses, and a Tamron SP500. For flash I use my old Metz 45-NC1 which I've had almost as long as the OM1
The ES1 uses a Progressive scan CCD system which results in a much lower noise floor than a standard system, it also uses an ultrasonic cleaning system to keep the face of the CCD's clean.
If you're ever on a Carnival Cruise, all of their on board photographers use the E1 system.

It must be new digital camera season! I just received a Kodak Z612 which I compared in vain with some DSLR's. while there are some functions I will not be able to get with the Kodak, it is a very good camera.
I have a K1000 that I have a few lenses for and will be picking up the K100d soon but for now I am very impressed with the Kodak
