Hey Larry,I posted this on another Beatles forum in here as well. Let's get a Beatles' instrument book together. Theres enough people on this site that can get this together.
The book would include all recording equipment that the Beatle used from the years 1958-70, all beatles Guitars and bass's, amps and equipment, including pedals, mellotrons, acoustic pianos, electric pianos, moogs, all of Ringo's and Pete Best's Drum sets used from 1955 to 1980.
The main objective of the book would be to provide information on the guitars, amps, and drums used on each song mostly focusing on the period 1960-1970.You could include the later solo years up to 1980 but you would have to be realistic and narrow it down. If we couldn't get pictures or track some of it down we could come up with the same models and include them as examples of what they used.
It doesn't look like anybody else is willing to do it, it would take some hardcore Beatle geeking to do it.

Larry Wassgren..make a book on the Beatles gear! now!
Fat Rat: A new Beatles' gear book will be out quite soon. I don't think, however, that it would be easy to write a pecise work as to who used what instrument on what song without having a couple of months of The Beatles' time. I agree, however, it would be a fascinating work.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I think if we all pulled together we could do it. I don't think we could actually get the Beatles involved but we could contact people close to them. Most of the guitars are published photos, so there's some of it. I think if we all made educated guesses at it, we could put a community together that votes and desides. For example, with regard to P.S I love you: John used his 59 Rick 325; George used his Gretsch Duo-jet; Paul his 61 model Hofner; and Ringo his oyster Ludwigs, or was it his the Premier set, and played the wood sticks or whatever that is making the galloping noise. Perhpas George Martin is playing the maraccas, Brian Epstein is in the corner sizing up their trousers, nothing left to the imagination.
Just something like that. I am not saying we will get a hold of Sir. Paul and he said this or that. He's not into details like us geeks, he won't even tell Guitar Player Magazine what stings he used. Ee could all pull our brains together and make the best thought out educated guesses, thats all. Even the new Beatles book has stuff that's bogus and that was written by the Beatles. They can't even remember or care. Most Beatles' books just get close anyway and most of the time its just one person's idea about the way it was. George Martin goofed several times in his book, no one called him on it. We have a whole team of writers and historians here. I see John Hall on here all the time, he knows stuff.
We should at lease throw it around. I know it will take time and won't be done in a 3 week span. It might take a year or more to compile all that info. It's just an idea.I know im dreaming just humor me!

Fat Rat, Wish I knew who you were for sure! That's the only thing I don't like about the internet, all these handles people use make it seem like a modern day CB. Maybe we could get ourselves a 'convoy' together and write a Beatle book, but I know there is one great one coming out soon. Let's wait and see how that one does.
There's always room for more though as I know all of us will buy everyone that comes out on Beatle instruments. I think I would mainly have to concentrate on '57-'62 as that's the years I know best. Like Peter said, it would be hard to get it 100% correct as to which song which guitar was used on. I'm sure we could get it close though.
