Hmmm, am I missing something?

Was Red ever a 4001-3 finish?

The Red 4001/3 basses:
"Red" a dark solid red that had black a black pickguard and binding and also black hardware.
"Ruby" a brighter solid red with a metallic undercoat most came with white a pickguard and binding and chrome hardware, like Jared posted above.
"Redneck limited edition"
"Burgundy" which was a dark trans red.
"Fireglo" which is a red burst.

Trans Red is a 4004Cii color, which is not as dark as Burgundy

Kris, the S/5 bass on the left of the first picture Jeff just posted is the Red finish you're looking for.
