Skunk Baxter didn't play on "Reelin in the Years", Elliot Randall did.

Short ones that give me goosebumps are:

EC - Politician, "Live Cream Vol. 2"
Robin Trower - the second solo on "I Can't Wait Much Longer" from "Live"
Dicky Betts - "One Way Out" from "Eat A Peach"
Ritchie Blackmore - "Space Truckin'"
Adrian Belew - "The Great Curve" from the Talking Heads' "Remain In Light"

Sunshine of Your Love - Cream
The Wind Cries Mary - Jimi Hendrix
Purple Haze - Jimi Hendrix
Johhny B Goode - Chuck Berry
Satisfaction - Rolling Stones
Shapes of Things - Jeff Beck
Let Me Love You - Jeff Beck

To name a few.

Elliot Randall, I mean, er, yes. (Now I have to learn about THIS guy---love the tone on that solo.)

Rattlesnake-y solo on Bowie's "Jean Genie" ...Mick Ronson?...

Correction, Skunk DID play on "Reelin'in the years" but he played rythm and the two part harmony licks. The solo is Randall but Skunk played on that track too.

I just read about how Elliot came in and did the track pretty quickly after Fagen and Becker told him that Baxter had been trying to nail it two days.

John Lennon (?) on Every Little Thing and You Can't Do That, not only because these are some of the only Beatles Solos he plays but because he plays them in a way that, although completely different from George's style still fit in with the Beatles' music.

Jeff already got "My Generation" but here are some other good short bass solos, many of them played on Rics:

Geddy Lee/Rush: YYZ, La Villa Strangiato
Roger Glover/Deep Purple: Pictures of Home
Lemmy/Motorhead: Stay Clean
Cliff Burton/Metallica: Orion

Hmm, that's all I can think of right now...

So may great solos already mentioned, and many more to go...

No matter what you think of the song, Amos Garrett's solo on Maria Muldaur's "Midnight at the Oasis" is one of the most melodic I've ever heard (for some reason I always thought it was Ry Cooder).

George Harrison on "I Feel Fine". Ties everything together nicely.

Just thought of another: Mike Gordon's short solos in "You Enjoy Myself" from Phish's first album, Junta.

I have always thought that Roger McGuinn's solo on "She Don't Care About Time" was a classic.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
