I had TWO UPS claims last year. One for a broken case and the other for a damaged bass. (it was repairable) Both took a long time to pay out but both eventually did.

But in both cases the damage was fairly easy for me to document. Wasn't fun to go through but I was glad they were insured. I ship Fedex now but yea, they are more strict on insurance coverage for guitars.

I received a "mint" Roscoe Beck Fender 5-string bass a few years ago,,, it arrived with smashed case latches, but the bass was OK>

I just took it on the chin and considered myself lucky.

Hey All!
I just got my new 620/12 BBR....or rather the shoe repair store 100 yards from my house got it!
UPS is the worst in my area....Manhattan.

I spoke to a UPS rep. today.
She told me that in Manhattan UPS has set secondary delivery points. That are authorized to accept packages. She told me they pay these secondary locations to accept packages.

This means no second or third delivery attempt. If you requested "signature required" it does not matter.
They simply leave the package wherever they please and let you know where that was. I WAS TOLD THIS IS POLICY IN MY AREA.

I walked into the shoe repair shop, grabbed my $1000 guitar, and left with it. The guy behind the counter said "Is that yours?"
"Yes" I said as I walked out the door, not missing a step.....

One more reason to love UPS.

OK, time for a feel-good UPS story.

Last week I was expecting a UPS delivery. (A guitar, natch. *) It was signature-required and I was home alone. So, I used my off day and stayed home all day waiting for the UPS truck. And, of course, it never showed up. But I also had to leave the house at 6pm to go to band rehearsal.

So, at 6pm I was resigned to my fate and left home. In the back of my mind I was secretly hoping that I would run into the UPS truck on the way out of my sub-division.

Lo and behold, who did I spot but the UPS guy. I waved for him to stop and he did. I told the driver who I was and what I was waiting for. He told me that he didn’t have my package but was, in fact, heading to meet up with my driver to help him deliver his last packages since it was getting late in the day. The first driver instructed me to follow him to find the other driver. Which we did pretty quickly.

My driver said he had my package but that I wasn’t scheduled for another six stops or so, plus he and the other guy were going to back their trucks up and diving up the remaining shipments.

I explained my predicament to him and he agreed right there to immediately drive to my house and deliver the guitar.

Sometimes they do things right and I’d like everyone to know that.

-----------------------------------------------------------

* It was a Carvin and turned out the neck seemed very tight and the strings were way too close together for me so I wound up returning it.

On FedEx Ground forms, it states that "fee applies" to the signature options. This means that if one pays to get a signature and none is obtained, the shipper is guilty of fraud and subject to criminal and civil charges.
