I have never had problems with long scale (34") strings.

I've used longs on all of my 4001 type basses (including my 4001C64S) for 25 years. Don't know if mediums would do the trick or not.

A more accurate measurement shows the scale to be 33 1/4" which although shorter than the Fender standard 34" is still long scale. If you follow Joey's instructions, your string jobs will be perfect. In case anyone is wondering, the best way to measure scale is to double the distance from the face of the nut to the center of the 12th fret.

I've always been happy with GHS light Boomers. They're a nickle round.
Also, just started using the boomer sub-zero's. They seem to hold their brightness longer.

I use D'addarios on all my basses, my favorite strings! (I am available for endorsement opportunities if the right person is reading this...)

I use Ernie Ball Stainless Steel Super Slinkies on my v63 and love the tone they deliver.

David, D'Addario EXL 170 strings are long scale. EXL 170M are medium scale.
