Sonic differences between 4001CS and new 4001C

Post by wwittman »

Should the sound be the same, or extremely similar, with the C's and the V's (including the Chris Squire)?
Are the horseshoe reissues the same?
I understand the cosmetic differences, but would I expect a SONIC difference?

I am a firm believer that the tone depends on the person. Chris Squire could pick up any of my 8 various basses and would still sound like Chris Squire. And I'm sure that you , William have your own bass voice. but regarding the Rickenbacker tone, I own a V63, that sounds brighter and has more output than my 4004 II Cheyenne, but has a slimmer neck than a Chris Squire model that I almost purchased. Bottom line in my opinion, they all have their own voice, but no mistaking, they all have the Rickenbacker tone. They all sound great.

My thoughts on this subject:
My 4001CSLH-(RW strings)Hot treble and bass.
My 4001SLH- (FW strings, Toaster, Horseshoe)Hot treble and bass.
My 4003LH-(RW strings)Normal output treble and bass.

Someone here said the new c series horseshoe pickups sounded thin like 70's high gains, which makes me wonder if they have started to use the .0047 cap again in the treble pickup circut. which is a simple fix by the way. See the thread on the C series elsewhere in this forum.

The C is thinner, the PU's are different, different bobbin alloy, resistance and more. Yes, they sound different. The C is quieter but sweeter sounding.

Do you mean physically thinner or sonically thinner?
