George Harrison's 425

The article telling the story of George Harrison purchasing his Rickenbacker 425 (420) in Benton Illinois in the fall of 1963 has been updated and additional historical details of his stay have been obtained from a series of newspaper articles published by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch from 1995 to 1997. Harrison is said by some to have used his Rickenbacker 425 on "With The Beatles." Does anyone have documentation or studio notes confirming on which tracks he used the 425?

George was visting his sister...he also went to several record stores to see if he could find any of the beatles records.....
if we got this book im talking about together you would find out what tracks he used it on!!!!
where is the guitar now????

It's in a glass case, mounted on a wall in The Beatles section at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Or at least it was last August when I was there. George modified it to be a 450 (added 2nd p/u). He did a **** job of cutting out the pick-up hole in the pickguard to fit around the neck pick-up, it was very poorly installed.

weird ive never seen a picture of it with the 3rd PU....i wonder if this was done after he got rid of it??? does anyone know how long he kept it???
or who ended up with it???

Unfortunately Peter, camera's are not allowed in the museum part of the hall of fame. There must be a picture of the guitar (modified) out there somewhere. If I ever come across one, i'll send it to you.

I spent a long time checking this one out last fall at the Rock Hall. I'm pretty sure the added pick-up happened after it left George's hands, but I haven't read the article in awhile, so I could be wrong on that one. The guard was cut from multi-lam plastic (white-black-white) and the screws were pretty scary too. Fatrat, there are only two pick-ups on that guitar at the moment, as George's 425 was originally issued with one.
