Guitar Den? Custom Shop?

Post by sloop_john_b »

Been hunting for a Fender bass in either Sonic Blue or Coral Pink, and came across this one:

Not quite SBL, but Daphne is close.

Anyway, I know the Highway 1 basses don't come with high-gloss finishes, usually matte finishes. Guitar Den has apparently taken the bass to their "custom shop" and given it a refin/overspray with lacquer - and are somehow selling it for $50 less than a new one costs!

They have also taken off the stock Bad *** II in favor of a regular Fender bridge. And the headstock logo doesn't appear to match that of other Highway 1 basses.

Gah! Any thoughts on the bass or the dealer?

(BTW, said bass would get a gold anodized pickguard, ashtray covers, and black finger rest.)

I had a "Daphne" Jazz bass years ago. I put an aged "mint green" guard on mine, really brought out the vintage vibe.

It sounds like THEY painted it, not Fender.

Yes, that's right. I've been there several times. Bought a few axes.

Looks pretty. My only fear is, why would they paint it? Could they possibly be covering something up?

I have a Hwy P-Bass and love it. It's that blonde color, so I souped it up by adding ashtrays and chrome knobs. Put one of those buckle rash guards from the 70's on the back, tossed in a Duncan and it's good to go.

Great value for an American made Fender IMO
