Yearly Color/finishes - Love or hate?

What's the view on the recent run of special yearly finishes
Sea Green, Desert Gold, Burgundy and this years Montezuma Brown. Gold and 'new' Burgundy seem to crop up on ebay and alike on a regular basis, but Sea Green very rarely, was Sea Green just not popular and few where sold? Burgundy still seems to be coming through to dealers as Montezuma does now.

My thoughts: Sea Green wasn't too popular but I'd give my left nostril for a Sea Green 350V63! Desert Gold were only marginally better sellers. (Did I type thast right??) Burgandy and Montezuma Brown were popular because dealers started using their brains. I may be wrong, JH - correct me if I'm wrong.

I bought a Sea Mist Green 4003 about 2 years ago from the Com. ave. Guitar Center in Boston, it was like new. I was under the impression that it had been there for a while. The salesman certainly didn't like it. I wasn't sure if I liked it or not, but I had never seen that color before and thought it was custom, so I thought well I have a rare Ric on my hands here. He sold it to me for $750.00. Everytime I take it out I get comments from people, most like the color. A guitar player I know loves it, calls it Cadillac Green like the old Gretches, thinks it's the perfect color for a surf band. I like good old Fireglo better, I like to be inconspicous, and you can't be with that bass. I also bought a Midnight Blue 4001 at the same time, couldn't pass either one of them up. Those were the good old days, BM......before marriage.
I love the burgandy, the M. Brown is nice too, also like the Turquois, ahh, like em all.

I haven't seen any of the limited 1 year finishes in person, only pix of them online. Having said that................ burgundy seems the best of the bunch. Montezuma brown ranks next. Sea Green I can live with as long as it's on a Ric guitar, but not a bass. But I might change my mind if I could see it live. As for Desert Gold, it's still not possible to say anything kind about that one. ~gag~

Outside of the standard "Big 3" finishes, my faves are Azureglo, Midnight Blue, & Turquoise. Perhaps even Apple Corps. Green for 2004??! I'm still not giving up on that one...........

Very lively.

I vote for turquoise, followed by the old blue-over-silver burst. The brown and red toned finishes seem too close to the fretboard color to me.

I like the look of the Sea Green... very retro. I like the Burgundy so well that I wish it was offered yearly, so I could order my new 370 that way. I vote for a transparent dark purple for 2004. (Violetglo?)

Sorry... an apple-green sounds disgusting to me.

When will the special 2004 color be announced?

I own a Sea Green 4003 (couldn't tell by the handle could you?

) and it is simply the most beautiful bass I've ever seen. The color combined with the binding is just fabulous. Just for the looks and the rarity of these finishes I will never, ever sell it, but it doesn't hurt that it's the easiest bass to play I've ever encountered, and the tone is excellent.

DaveDaveDave-- There is no comparison between the two! ~LOL~

S.R. Boland-- Your post indicates that you haven't seen the pix of what I've labeled as "Apple Corps. Green". Like Desert Gold (or any other Ric finish) it's not necessarily to everyone's taste. As a general rule I don't like a green finish on a bass or guitar, but this "Greenglo" is a great exception. As always, instrument finish beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Personally, I'd like to see the old Ruby finish make a comeback. I always liked Paul Weller's Ruby 330 from the Jam's 1st & 2nd albums. Other than that, I'm a traditionalist with my MG 370-12, JG 350, & FG 360 Rickenbackers. If they re-introduce Ruby, I'll absolutely get a 330!

I really like the burgundy, MB, and desert gold finishes. Would love to see a deeper blue-green shade, or maybe a darker blue than midnite
