Seeing them play at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC tomorrow night. Sure to be some Rickenbackers played.

Show was sold out. Premiums were being offered for any extra tix.

Missed the Sneakers - saw Mitch Easter play a few tunes -my claim to fame is that I replaced him on bass in my band the Cyclones in the late 79-80...Mitch is so talented. I think he should have used some more musicans to enhance his sound however.

Then the Db's - was like seeing a greatest hits concert of one of my favorite bands. Perfectly executed versions of all the favorites. They even opened with Black and White, which should have been a hit IMO. Three encores including an excellent version of what was probably their most popular song - Amplifier.

Spoke briefly with Peter Holsapple and Will Rigby after the show. Also in attendance, Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley from Yo La Tengo. Spoke briefly with Georgia as well.

Definately a trip into my musical past, as I was proud to be acquainted with most of these folk.

Next month - The Bongos

Recorded from the balcony in the left corner. Shalini's bass guitar
would not work so she borrowed Robert Keely's from the opening
band the Sneakers. Mitch performed five Let's Active songs tonight.
The rest were from his upcoming solo album "Dynamico". You'll note
a slight record level adjustment at the start of track #2.

They should play Chgo, as that was one, if the THE town the dB's were most popular in, probably because WXRT gave them a lot of spins.

However, I hear this may not be the case. Weird a band would get back together just to play two cities (unless they could make a mint out of it, like Cream did.)

Glenn, they were definitely more popular in NYC and NC then anywhere else, which is not to say they didn't have a following in Chi-town as well...

Kenny, he was playing a tele...didn't see KH on the case though

Oh Marc - I sold it to him when I worked for Guitar Center in NOLA. I've never owned a Telecaster. (I like Telecasters, but I've just never had one.)

Peter and I are pals - I bought a couple of combo organs off of him, and used to see him play acoustic at the Circle Bar in NOLA.

I read somewhere, Stamey or Holsapple said, they were bigger in Chgo than anywhere else. Did they gets spins on NYC radio? Chgo and NYC certainly had the numbers to make them more popular than NC.

We all know, there was once a day when a DJ in one city could break a band like it broke nowhere else (the Who in Detroit in '67, etc.)
