Origin of phrase "HDN"

Post by jdogric12 »

I remember hearing a brief (10-20 word) description of the origin of the phrase "Hard Day's Night" and was wondering if some of the experts here have a confirmed history. Thanks, J

Yes, it was a Ringoism, supposedly coined on March 19th, 1964 - After a long day spent filming scenes for their first movie, a luncheon for the presentation of an award from the Variety Club of Britain, and filming a Top Of The Pops appearance. At the end of it, Ringo reportedly said, "It's been a hard day", then glancing quickly outside, appended, "'s night". John and Paul quickly wrote a song with that title for the (then still untitled) movie.

I believe that the phrase "Eight Days a Week" was also credited to Ringo.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

It is not used too often now, but when I was young, here in Germany it was common to say "in 8 days" for "in a week".

Could have been in Hamburg where they picked it up.

"Eight days a week" has been atributed to John's or Paul's driver.
