In retrospect, I think the "Help!" single is the true defining moment of "The Beatles" career. No previous track had such a personal, lyrical content as this one. The floodgates were now open for the introspective works on "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver". This is so much more than just a new twist on a pop song. It was as bold a statement then as "Two Virgins " would later be, if not more so. It is John Lennon at his finest and most vulnerable, IMHO.
