Dude on ebay flashes his 4001 at us, and I see this color:

...and instantly fall in love. Was this a real Rickenbacker color or a refin?

I really dig it.

Unless the color is off, I doubt that's an original finish.

I would BET that's jetglo and it's a weird reflection from the camera. Sometimes the old clear coat yellows and can make Jetglo look a little green in the right light.

Just a guess.

ha - is that from the Emperor's listing?

here are a couple listings for a similar re-finish(same bass, much cheaper on craigslist posting):

http://sandiego.craigslist.org/msg/261565718.html

looks like the mute assembly, pup cover and case aren't included.

Those refinishes looks pretty decent. I'm yet to see a refinish I actually prefer or standard colors.

Yes, Brycycle, dude is the emperor. The bass you show is fine, but to me just not flat-out irresistible like the one up top---it looks like a "glo" in that you see all the woodgrain, while the color just tints it and makes it glow.

Mark - are you talking about the Emperor's having the woodgrain show through as desirable? if so, click the "more images" tab on the gbase listing. the grain and skunk stripe show through quite nicely.

Greg, I believe you're right.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

Bryce, the bass listed on craigs etc is in dire need of some neck work. I talked to the guy at the store who said that the strings are off the fretboard about an inch?!? sounds like someone needs to come off BOTH prices to get that neck straight..

Emeraldglo?

It's definitely green, Greg.

Frank N., expand your horizons! There are hundreds of shades that Ricks look terrific in, but they must be carefully chosen.

I think that particular shade of green would look super on a tractor.

I don't personally do green or blue guitars, like anyone cares.
