She's Leaving Home...

That's right, my August 1970 '21 fretter will be leaving home for good this coming sunday. Since I don't have any pics of it, I'm using a shot of forumite Graham Griffiths' 1969 21 fretter, which looks exactly like mine (originally FG). When I bought it from the original owner I replaced the original pickups with a set of my own for more output. The bass is now back to its stock configuration and ready to go. How much am I letting it go for? 2,000 EUR with (non-original) HSC.

Basically I'm kinda short on dough these days. She's going to a good home though, actually not far from where I live. Besides I'll be able to see her and play her whenever I please.

yes, I'm keeping my November 1970 21 fretter which I've owned for exactly 20 years.

Sure you don't want to send her to the USA to live?

I'd take her for long walks on the beach, read her poetry and rub her neck............

Sergio, why oh why did you not sell it to me!!! My beloved March 1971 dark BG 4001, serial number KC 012, which I bought new in 1971 for $285, was stolen Labor Day 1986 in a burglary (and never recovered), and I have been trying to replace her ever since with a 4001 bass from the same era and type. I would not hesitate to pay 2000 EUR or MORE for such a 21-fretter late 1970 bass as yours

And it certainly could not go to a better home!

To make matters worse, I was the one who bought Jon Casselman's beautiful early 1973 BG back in November 2006, only to have the thrice-accursed UPS lose it in-transit from Canada to Maryland

Jon is a real gentleman and an upstanding member of the Rick community, and it certainly was not his fault. This tragic loss still hurts both of us, as it was irreplaceable.

So who could possibly be more deserving of such an awesome bass as yours, Sergio!!!

If anyone else out there is charitable enough to make their 1968 to 1971 bass available to a really good cause such as mine, PLEASE let me know!!!

I wish I'd held onto KA015 myself. I sold it in 1999 for $500 on Ebay because I was told on the old alt.rickenbacker forum that it was probably a fake. Nobody had heard of a 21 fret 4001 bass! It had replacement tuners, bridge/tailpiece and had the large magnet treble pickup with a plastic backing plate, but that bass sounded so good and the neck was to die for. I found some old pics of it that I will scan and post someday soon.
