Not on a Rick, but there are quite a few vids from him playing Rush tunes. He's really good.

Hi Greg, thanks for the heads up on this guy.

Somehow watching a guy with just a bass, playing along with a song seems so refreshing. It struck me that this fella is playing for the pure joy of the instrument. None of the star BS.

It was fun to watch and be reminded of the simple pleasure of playing bass. I even liked that sweet maple neck P Bass.
I'm just happy to be here.

Be good if he actually knew the notes!!! Very stripped down version. But I'm just nit picking... Good to see someome having a go at the 'old' ones. Very good songs. People forget that.....

I also appreciate the way he just seems to be enjoying himself. There are quite a few Rush songs on his video list, so maybe he knows the notes of others better.

I am a Primus fan, and there is a video of he and his son playing "John the Fisherman" (son on guitar). They're a great pair and I'd love to be able to play with my son like that someday!

I somehow found him when I was searching YouTube for folks playing Pink Floyd's "Money" on a bass, to see if I could pick out how they play a certain area I was wondering about. There are a ton of vids of bass playing on YouTube now, but most that are amateurs don't look like they're nearly as relaxed with their style as this guy is(I know I wouldn't).

Good stuff,

He seems to be most comfortable using the "Jamerson" index hook technique most of the time....which is how I play. I'm not that coordinated using multiple fingers due to no technical training. Anyway, sounds great.

I like the way he leans back on the sofa during the middle part of the song. Cool!!! As with all Rush stuff, the key is to RELAX and enjoy it....

Scott;
What is the Jamerson index hook your're talking about?

James Jamerson, the Motown great, is well documented as only using one finger, his right index, to pluck all those great, defining basslines.

very impressive when you think how smooth and far ranging he was on the fretboard. You'd think that he would need at least two fingers to play some of his faster lines so smoothly.

Geddy uses only 1 finger as much as possible...makes his basslines more defined.

If you learn to use up and down strokes with that one finger you can play very fast, as fast as a pick player. I've seen Geddy and Chuck Rainey use that to great effect.

When I was in a Rush tribute band we recorded this, but we broke up before we could finish (and fix) it.

Thanks, I wish we (read 'I') didn't choke the end of the take. I had food poisoning and was hurling between takes so the recording session was cut short.

'97 4003 (which I found out after the take I only had the bridge pup on) -> Sansamp -> Board.

Your tone is very nice on that version, I like the Geddy sound with a little more bottom end. Very nice!
