Interesting Bob, do you mind if I ask what they run?
Randy, what bass do you use indoors to learn parts? I have a Turser copy of the 500/6 Verithin thats a full on hollow body with F holes that I use right now.
I use to use my old sixties Tedisco verision of the Violin bass as its a full on hollow body with F holes like the Verithin style bass. Plenty loud for house hold practice with CD's.

I usually have used the Rickenbackers through my little Hartke 35wt practice amp. But lately I've found myself using the Brice more since it's fairly loud without having to turn the amp up too much. Most of the time I just pick up one of my six basses and play. In all honesty what I use depends on the song.

I use the hollow bodies more in the house now as I don't use and amp at all in the house. So the big hollow body with the F holes works best.
I agree that some basses do some more justice to some songs than others do.
I am seriously thinking of ordering a Icon now and getting the Labella taped flatwounds that Bob talked about. Did he say if he bought them for short scale or medium scale?
Gary has the Icon's in stock again but he doesn't have any cases yet. I have one bass and one guitar with out a case now and I would hate to have another one setting here in a box. I have lots of basses and guitars and I can't stand not having a case for each one LOL..
Anway the taped flatwounds would give it a different sound than any of my other basses. I can't seem to find any with red silk wraps on the ends anyway.
Another thing that has crossed my mind Randy is to put a D tuner on my medium scale bass. I think it would make any of my short scale basses neck heavy. In fact I know that it would have that effect on the Violin basses. Although I don't know about your Club style bass. Have you ever put one on any of your basses Randy?

No Dan, I've never put a D tuner on any of my basses. I've never felt the need to have one. Check out e-bay, there are cases for sale for the Beatle violin basses. I have one for the Brice that I bought on there, and it's a real nice case.

Dan, the LaBella tapewounds I bought are for a full scale. I think they have the tapes for a short scale. I still haven't strung them up.

I'll be waiting to see how you think that the longs scales fit then Bob.
My nephew came over the other night. Looks like he might wind up being the bass player with our group. He has the chops for it. He likes my big hollow body bass.
He says the little Violin bass doesn't have any thing for him for him to really hold on to like the bigger hollow body bass that I have thats a copy of the Hofner 500/6 Verithin does.
Strange Eh but true.

I have Hipshot D tuners on three of my basses; Alembic Series II Short Scale, Rick Turner M-1, and a Fender Precision fretless. The weight/neck dive effect caused by the tuners on each instrument is minimal to non-existant.

If the machines/tuners on the Icon have the same string hole diameter as the genuine Hofners, long scale strings will not work.

My son got me to watch these fellows in their rather well known Beatles cover band. I came away LOVING the way Mr. Bissonette's Epiphone Viola bass sounds... especially evident during the little solo bass runs!

I can get my black Brice violin bass to sound a lot like that through my Ampeg. The pick-ups and the tailpiece are the same on mine. The Epi Viola and the Brice are nice little basses and very good cost wise too.

I've been doing a solo acoustic version of that song for about (he looks at his watch) 30 years now. Just love that song. This band, warts and all, has the courage to pull off the best of the hardest stuff.

Hey David, why not do this one at the next wedding gig! Wouldn't that be a night to remember?

I just learned that Hofner uses animal glue for the neck joints of their basses. If this is true, (which I have no way to know if it is), I'm suprised that Macca would let himself be seen with his, let alone play it. Given his well known views on animal rights, and animal based products. I wonder if he is aware of this, if it is true?. Perhaps if he did, we might see the Rickenbacker bass more often.
