Meet The Smithereens

Post by kenindfw »

KOCH Records announces the release of "Meet The Smithereens!," the new album by New Jersey's The Smithereens in January 2007. Paying homage to The Beatles' groundbreaking album, "Meet The Beatles!," the Smithereens have rerecorded the album in its entirety, and the result is a fun and nostalgic trip through 12 classic songs done Smithereens style. The CD also features liner notes by legendary promoter Sid Bernstein, musician (and some would say musicologist) Lenny Kaye, Beatles historians Bruce Spizer, Dennis Mitchell and Andy Babiuk, author of the fantastic book, "Beatles Gear."

Received my copy of the CD yesterday, and I've already been through it in its entirety three times. Wonderful production, arrangements true to the originals, outstanding vocals with no one trying to imitate the Beatles, excellent and tasteful playing, great tone. Plenty o'Ric. Sounds exactly like the Smithereens at their best, simply playing Beatle tunes. What a great vocalist Pat Dinizio is.

A very cool addition to any Beatle fan's music library.

Probably my favorite band of all time ( with the exception of you-know-who ). Listened to the link and will order my copy today. Fantastic!

>>outstanding vocals with no one trying to imitate the Beatles

HUH? they are not trying to imitate the EXACT voice of the Fabs, but all the harmonies and arrangements are the same as the originals.

They do a great job with these songs and would be a very good Beatles cover band playing around local clubs if they chose to.

However, the songs are so close to the original (some distortion on the amps notwithstanding) that I really dont understand why anyone but a serious Smithereens fan would spend their hard earned money on this album. The Beatles did these songs better.

Sorry... just MHO.

...And in the liner notes, thanks from the band to John Hall and Kenny Howes! How's that for a Rickenbacker band?
