The Microfrets thing that he used to record Lamb is AMAZING . . . goes from crazy distorted punch to round P-bass-ish tone instantly. Listen on "In the Cage" about halfway through.

Jeff, I rather like the Microfrets doubleneck.Image I've never seen another Microfrets 6-string bass, Mike must have been he only name player who have ever played one. He sure is the only one who have had it coupled with a twelve string Rick guitar to a very strange but strangely fascinating doubleneck monster!Image

"Selling England..." tour continued well into 1974 so maybe you saw Genesis during it. Mike surely used the Rick bass/guitar doubleneck then.

In my opinion Rutherford's concept for the doubleneck looked much better than the Rickenbacker's own production model 4080/12.

Mike Rutherford is one my favorite rick users. I love his bass lines thicken up and make Genesis songs more interesting. I recently picked up this book/DVD on the Gabriel era. Its very interesting, it analyzes all of the songs in the book and shows rare concert clips on the DVD. I recommend it to anyone who likes Genesis.
